Lake District | Wast water lake with Muncaster Castle detour

Wastwater Lake is roughly 55miles from our Windermere base. The plan was to drive straight there then through the peak back to the flat. However, on our way towards Wastwater Lake, we saw signs for a nearby castle. Of course, we have to check it out. We stopped by Muncaster Castle and they told us that the road at the stop is narrow and busy with tourist vehicles squeezed in tight and sometimes dangerous spaces. So we decided to just drive back on the same route…

Muncaster Castle

Muncaster Castle is a historic haunted castle and still a lived-in family home by the Pennington family since 1208. A castle was built in the later 13th century and enlarged in the 14th when a pele tower was erected on Roman foundations. The castle is said to be haunted. What I particularly like about this detour apart from the tour inside the castle is the Bird Display. We did not explore the gardens as it started to rain and I want to go to the lake before it’s too late.

Wastwater Lake with the cloud-covered Scafell Pike

I wanted to have a photograph of the highest mountain in England. I saw several pictures of a lake with Scafell Pike in the background and found out that the said lake is Wastwater, the deepest lake in England. hmmm, let me rephrase this…
I just want a picture where I can put this on the caption >> Scafell Pike, the highest mountain in England overshadows Wastwater, the deepest lake in England..

Unfortunately, that is not possible since the clouds covered the mountain.

The small but busy road to the top of the mountain…
😅I thought there was a sheep here…
Oops! Here it is! 😂
